Abstract
This survey was carried out from november 4 to november 18. 1974 at 53 public primary schools located in Dongdaemoon-ku, Seongbuk-ku and Seongdong-ku, Seoul. The survey was possible with the cooperation of nurse-teachers working at the above schools and 131 school children who got infected with tuberculosis and were under nurse-teacher¢¥s supervison.
The purpose of the survey was to find out the general condition of the infected children, their attitutudes towards the tuberculosis and contents of health education for the treatment of tuberculosis conducted by nurse-teachers.
1) 56% of the infected children were boys and the rest was girls. And 80. 1% of them were midly infected.
2) 79.3% of the infected children were from rather poor families and they were mostly melancholy in their school life.
3) 40% of them made average results and the rest 60% made poor results in their study. On the other hand, 63% of them were of stout build while the rest had average bodies.
4) 94.7% of them found themselves infeted by group medical check-up at the school. 70%of them didn¢¥t know from whom they got infected while the rest 30% got infected from other family members.
5) 91.6% of them knew about tuberculosis a little and those school children who knew more about the disease showed better cooperation for the treatment,
6) 48. 1% of teachers who were in charge of the classes showed cooperation while 30.5% were not cooperative for the treatment. The disaese could be treated faster when the teachers in charge of classes were cooperative for the treatment of the infected children.
7) A large number of parents of infected childrren(47.3%) were not cooperative while only 26.8%
of them were cooperative for the treatment. No doutbt, the treatment was influenced by the attitudes of the parents towards the treatment.
8) 37.7% of nurse-teachers were conducting health education for the infected children to the all school children (infected and not infected) in the classroom, 34% regularly to the infected children in the school nursing room and 24.5% to the infected children in the nursing room only when they were distributing medicine to the children.
9) 83% of nurse-teachers visited home of infected children when they felt it necessary.
In the conclusion, the supervision and treatment of the children who got infected with tuber culosis should be carried out not only by nurse-teachers but also by the cooperation of the teachers in charge of class. Since most of the infected children are from the poor family and make poor results in study, their health care should be conducted with more attention and understanding
